The Russian government plans to increase the volume of production of textile and light industry products in Crimea by 4-5 times by 2020, according to an official from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Boris Kabakov, Deputy Minister of Industrial Policy of the Crimea, said that in recent years, the textile industry has virtually disappeared in the Peninsula. He noted that in the 1980s it occupied fourth place and provided about 10% of the total industrial output of the region; this figure has declined to just 0.5%.

The Crimean government said it is now creating conditions to attract investors to the regional textile and light industry.
