Philippine researchers develop greener bamboo textiles

Picture1Researchers from the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) have developed sustainable natural textile materials from bamboo.

The institute’s patent-pending bamboo fibre extraction technology, first developed in 2015, includes mechanical, chemical and biological processes to liberate the fibres from the bamboo culm (shoot).
