Protection against sepsis pathogens

AGXX Textiles image w700At April’s Techtextil trade fair in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Heraeus Precious Metals received a Techtextil Innovation Award in the New Technology category for an antimicrobial technology designed to better protect hospital patients from infections caused by septicaemia pathogens.

The German company’s technology involves a precious metal-based additive called AGXX that when incorporated into textiles triggers a catalytic reaction through the interaction of two precious metals, silver and ruthenium. This reaction generates reactive oxygen, which effectively kills micro-organisms.
