Giving garments enough grip for robots

Despite being universally adopted in many areas of traditional manufacturing, industrial robots have failed to find a place in garment sewing applications due to their difficulties in handling limp materials. 

This situation has led to a range of initiatives, including the Robotic Assembly of Garments Project led by the Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing (ARM) Institute and involving Siemens, Bluewater Defense, Sewbo and the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley).
