Natural fibres used in F1 racing seat

Woking, UK-based McLaren has developed a natural fibre racing seat, which is considered to be the first Formula One car part to be made of renewable textile fibres.

Collaborating with sustainable lightweight manufacturer Bcomp of Fribourg, Switzerland, the novel racing seat is said to optimise the mechanical properties of flax fibres through fabric architecture, developing a seat with the required strength and stiffness, but with a 75% lower carbon dioxide footprint compared with its carbon fibre counterpart.
