Key Safety Systems plans expansion in Japan

Regardless of whether or not it is successful in being selected for taking over troubled Japanese airbag manufacturer Takata, Key Safety Systems (KSS) is aiming to triple its revenues from the Japanese automotive sector to US$300m by 2020 by building its first manufacturing plant in Japan while also looking at acquisitions, according to Automotive News.

Currently the world’s fourth largest airbag maker, acquiring Takata would propel Detroit, Michigan, USA-based KSS to number two, behind Sweden’s Autoliv, which is also said to be bidding for the Tokyo, Japan-based company.

A purchase would also likely give KSS more access to Japanese companies, adding to its customer base that is more reliant on US, German, Korean and Chinese brands.
