Coating for hospital fabrics kills coronavirus and E. coli

IMG 8183 1024x758Canadian scientists have developed an inexpensive, non-toxic coating for almost any fabric that is claimed to decrease the infectivity of the virus that causes Covid-19 by up to 90%.

Researchers at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver soaked fabric in a solution of a bacteria-killing polymer that contains a molecule that releases sterilising forms of oxygen when light shines on it. They then used an ultraviolet light to turn this solution to a solid, fixing to the fabric the coating, which has both passive and active antimicrobial properties.
