Vietnam urged to source raw materials from Malaysia and India

Vietnam’s textile industry has been urged to source raw materials from Malaysia and India while its main supplier China rides out the storm created by the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

As Vietnamese firms rely on China for 30-40% of input materials, they could start experiencing a shortage of raw materials by the second quarter of this year, as Chinese suppliers have said there would be no outgoing shipments before the end of February, said the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Garment, Textile, Embroidery and Knitting (Agtek).
