Philippine exporters seek textile sector revival

Philippine exporters are pushing for a revival of the domestic textile industry following global supply chain disruptions arising from the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, which has cut off the garment sector from imported raw material.

Robert Young, trustee for the textile sector of the Philippine Exporters Confederation, said the Philippines is the only Asian country without a textile industry. It cannot continue to rely on imports and must attain some degree of self-reliance in textile production, he said in a recent webinar.
