Porous catheter for intravascular blood pump reduces ingrowth

A catheter for an intravascular blood pump has been developed by Abiomed Europe of Aachen, Germany. The catheter is designed to reduce or prevent ingrowth into the tissue of the blood vessel.

The pump is advanced through a patient’s blood vessel and into the heart by means of the catheter, which has an elongate tubular body and a porous three-dimensional structure on the outer surface.
